Cody Matson

From 2007 – 2019 I was a shooting instructor and clay target manager at a private shooting and hunting preserve, Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation, just outside of Chicago. Ensuring shooters have a safe and positive experience is my top priority. It is my goal to provide excellent customer service and knowledge to members and guests and I’m very excited to bring my experience and dedication to Cherokee Rose.

At Max McGraw, I became a Level 2 instructor with the NSCA and a FITASC Referee. My experiences working side by side with legends of the industry such as Dan Carlisle, Don Currie, Will Fennell, John Higgins, Anthony Matarese Jr., Brett Seibert, and Scott Williams are truly priceless. Learning target setting and trap maintenance from Chuck Frazier has been an incredible experience.

I have worked with shooters of varying skill levels, spending thousands of hours on the range. During this time, I have helped hundreds of shooters fire their first shot and coached seasoned shooters on honing their skills. I pride myself on putting shooters at ease when nervous or intimidated by the process of shooting.

I enjoy helping shooters accomplish their goals and become personally invested in coaching them to succeed. Many shooters’ goals are not to win national championships or world titles. Most want to become a better shot out in the field or duck blind. I was a waterfowl and upland guide, spending countless hours in the field. My experience developing personalized lessons will help shooters make those tough shots. I’m very excited to set targets on the incredible terrain at Cherokee Rose. Targets should be highly visible and set according to the shooting audience. The beauty of having multiple courses means there will be targets suited to everyone’s ability and desired difficulty. I couldn’t be more excited about the 2021 shooting season ahead!
